One month of real JamBox data from two leisure centres in the London area. Explore visitor patterns, peak hours, and weekly trends.
Leisure centres show two distinct peaks: a morning rush (9am-11am) as gym-goers and swimmers arrive, then a stronger after-school/work surge (4pm-6pm). The 5pm hour sees the highest traffic of the day.
Unlike retail, leisure centres are busier on weekdays. Weekday average: 43,004 vs weekend average: 37,395. Tuesday is the busiest day, while Sunday sees the lowest footfall.
Sundays average just 15,384 visitors - 36% below the weekly average. This pattern held throughout October, with one Sunday (19th) dropping to just 13,623 visitors combined.
Week-over-week traffic remained remarkably consistent, ranging from 36,583 to 44,847 daily average. This predictability makes staffing and class scheduling easier to optimise.
With clear morning and evening peaks, leisure centres can schedule reception, lifeguards, and fitness instructors to match actual demand. Reduce staffing during the 1pm-3pm lull.
Schedule popular classes during peak hours to maximise attendance, or use quiet periods (early afternoon, Sundays) to test new class formats with lower risk.
Knowing that 5pm averages 2,260 visitors per hour helps plan pool lane allocations, gym floor capacity, and changing room availability during rush periods.
With Sunday traffic 36% below average, consider family swim sessions, open gym offers, or reduced membership trial days to boost weekend utilisation.
